- The Coronavirus Outbreak is a Global Emergency and Shouldn’t be Treated With Levity
The Member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency Plateau State at the National Assembly, Rep. Simon Mwadkwon, Ph.D has described the Coronavirus as “a deadly global pandemic to humanity”
“The coronavirus is a global emergency that shouldn’t be treated with levity, I am calling on us not to put our lives to danger but adhere strictly to the measures put in place to forestall contracting and spread of the virus” he said.
Rep. Simon Mwadkwon said since the outbreak of the disease, over 15,000 persons have died of the virus globally with total cases standing at over 350,000 globally.
He posited that available records in Nigeria emanating from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) shows that the Nation has recorded 37 cases, with 34 confirmed active, 2 patients discharged having recovered and 1 Death recorded so far.
It is from the aforementioned that the Honorable Member is calling on all his Constituents to be cautious, stay safe and adhere strictly to all preventive and precautionary measures as advised by Health professionals such as avoiding crowds, handshake, regular washing of hands with disinfectants, maintaining at least 2 metres spacing and staying away from people sneezing, coughing.
He reiterated that the health tips given are not aimed at punishing the public but for the common good in order not to contract the deadly virus.
“Take all the preventive and precautionary measures advised by medical experts seriously and do what will not expose you to the deadly virus”
“None of you will contract or die of the Coronavirus by God’s grace” he said.
The Honorable Member also admonished the people to be prayerful and avoid tendencies that will expose them to the disease which for now has no cure as the confirmed cases of the virus keep growing daily in geometric proportion.
He charged them to report any suspected case to nearby medical facilities in their communities for medical attention.
The Federal Lawmaker called on government to put sensitization and medical measures in place to curtail and contain the outbreak.
Dr. Simon Mwadkwon prayed God to protect the people from the disease and charged them to maintain high level of personal hygiene at this critical moment.
