Constitution Review: Plateau House of Assembly Goofed – Borok Fomson

This should further our engagement for 2023 as to the quality of representatives that we intend to elect to be our ambassadors at every facet of our democracy.

This is a lifetime opportunity to demand a quality Constitution that will address the barrage of issues that bedevilled our nation and not legislative entrepreneurship akin to what we are witnessing in the current arrangement.

We need to remind them of the responsibility they shoulder as agents of the people and not representatives of their pouches.

This is another display of awful irresponsibility by these legislative entrepreneurs in the garb of a House of Assembly. No wonder in Kenya, their kind are often referred to as “HORRIBLE MEMBERS” rather than ” HONOURABLE MEMBERS”.

Their foolhardy action has denied the entire state of a voice in the current attempt to alter some parts of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 to acclimate impending challenges in the country and our state in particular. I know in their naivety, they have shirked the fact that it was an opportunity for them to inscribe their reputations on the Democratic sands of Nigeria for contributing to the process at some point in time in their lives as trustees of the people.

Unfortunately, they concluded to go dirty with their linens to the public sending an unnerving impression of their selves and the respective offices they occupy hoping that the governor will be blackmailed in this circumstance, this too is unfortunate.

That singular action has withheld from the Plateau man that momentous opportunity to state his issues as they are for the world to understand and appreciate. That reminds me of the adage “An opportunity once lost may not be regained” and now the interest is, can we regain this lost opportunity that the instability of our “Horrible members” has caused us?

My call to all the members of the State’s House of Assembly members is to seek forgiveness from their constituents and the good people of Plateau state for betraying them at a critical juncture of their struggle to be liberated from acute insecurity, underdevelopment, Financial disparity, resources imbalance and political inequality in the federal equation.

This is not our pact with the members of Plateau State House of Assembly and we await their unreserved apologies as the days unfold.
