As the date for the Local government polls in Plateau state draws close, political intrigues continue to blight the Pankshin arm of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). ViewPointNigeria reliably gathered that deep confusion has arisen within the rank of the PDP in the Local Government, with regards who to select as the party flag bearer for the LG elections. Some of the key Players who have indicated interest to contest incude: Hon. Andrew Dabit (otherwise known as “Mai Jama’a”), Hon. Yohanna Dakas, Hon. Jacob Bitmang, Chief Simon Tangni and Mr. Sam Go’ar. The confusion is said to have arisen because the zoning formula of the PDP pre-supposes that the next chairman is picked from Pankshin South zone, given that the former chairman (Hon. Yohanna Dukas) was from the Pankshin Northern zone.

In view of this debacle, the PDP aspirants from Pankshin south were said to have undertaken a primary election to decide on a consensus candidate who would battle for the party’s mandate with other aspirants in Pankshin North during the party’s official primaries on the 18th of October. This Pankshin south primary was said to have produced Chief Solomon Tangni as the consensus candidate. However, Hon. Jacob Bitmang was said to have kicked against the arrangement and therefore the results remained inconclusive.
Similarly in the North, a consensus arrangement with members of the Northern zone was undertaken, producing Hon. Sam Goar as the consensus candidate. Hon. Goar was said to have defeated Chief Yohanna Dukas, his closest challenger –however, Hon. Dukas was lost the election, was again said to have expressed displeasure with the results primaries, calling the exercise a kangaroo arrangement.
At present, it appears the PDP in Pankshin Local Government is still in disarray and it is not clear whether they will be able to put their house in order ahead of the polls.
