A coalition of concerned stakeholders, youth leaders, ward coordinators, and supporters of the All Progressives Congress in Plateau State has called on the party’s National Chairman and the National Working Committee (NWC) to immediately publish the official names of members of the Electoral Committees assigned to conduct the forthcoming governorship and State House of Assembly primaries in the state.
The group, operating under the banner Concerned APC Stakeholders for Electoral Transparency in Plateau State, made the demand following consultations among party members in Jos, stressing the need for transparency, internal democracy, and the prevention of disputes that have historically trailed party primaries.
According to the coalition, the publication of committee membership is critical to ensuring credibility, trust, and compliance with the APC Constitution and operational guidelines.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Coordinator Yilji B. John stated that the demand was not intended to undermine the party leadership but rather to strengthen due process and prevent avoidable post-primary conflicts.
“We are not opposing the party leadership. We are only demanding transparency and strict compliance with the APC Constitution.
Plateau APC cannot afford another round of conflicting figures, parallel announcements, and post-election disputes. The names of those assigned to conduct these primaries must be made public immediately,” he said.
The coalition warned against a repeat of the confusion and unauthorized parallel declarations that allegedly marred the recent House of Representatives primaries in the state.
Citing provisions of the APC Constitution and operational guidelines, the group maintained that only duly constituted committees appointed by the NWC possess the authority to conduct and officially declare results of party primaries.
For the governorship primary, the group referenced Article 20.3 of the APC Constitution, which provides that nomination of a governorship candidate shall be conducted by an Election Committee appointed by the NWC. It further emphasized that the Chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee serves as the Chief Returning Officer and is solely empowered to publicly collate scores, announce final results, and declare the winner.
On the State House of Assembly primaries, the coalition insisted that neither ward nor local government executives possess constitutional authority to declare winners, noting that only the Chairman of the Primary Election Committee or a designated constituency returning officer can lawfully collate and announce results.
The group also argued that publication of committee members before the primaries is mandatory under Article 13.4 of the APC Constitution and relevant operational guidelines, which require the NWC to appoint and publicly disclose the names of committee members through official party channels.
The stakeholders further called for the immediate conduct of the mandatory pre-primary interactive session involving aspirants, security agencies, and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission in line with party procedures.
They warned that failure to publicly announce and formally inaugurate the committees before commencement of the primaries could expose the process to legal challenges by aggrieved aspirants and damage the credibility of the party’s internal democratic process.
Reaffirming loyalty to the APC, the coalition maintained that the demand was aimed at safeguarding internal democracy, strengthening trust among members, and ensuring credible outcomes in the forthcoming primaries.
The statement was jointly signed by Yilji B. John, Coordinator, and Abdulahi Adamu Shendam, Secretary, on behalf of the Concerned APC Stakeholders for Electoral Transparency in Plateau State, dated May 19, 2026.
