The event, which took place at 33 Artillery Brigade Warrant Officers/Sergeants’ Mess, brought together children of personnel in the frontline, orphans & widows alike.

Speaking on the significance of the event, the Commander said it was to give the children and widows a sense of belonging in the barracks community that they are not alone irrespective of their status. He reiterated that the Nigerian Army will always be there for them and never forget them. He said it was also to make merry with the children to reduce the possible negative impact that the absence of their parents could have on them. He therefore expressed appreciation to officers and soldiers of the Brigade for their steadfastness, tireless efforts & sacrifices for the peace of the nation.

The Commander further explained that the event was part of efforts to key into the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen TA Lagbaja’s Command Philosophy that centers on troops’ motivation and welfare to carry out their constitutional roles effectively with sound minds. He added that it was also in line with the GOC 3 Division & Commander Op Safe Haven, Maj Gen AE Abubakar’s directive that commanders make efforts to impact positively on troops morale and that of their families. According to him, troops will always give their best on security if their families are properly catered for.

The event featured numerous fun activities, including games, quiz competition and dancing competitions, which availed the children good time to mix up and the opportunity to dance and interact with the Commander.

The climax of the event was the presentation of prizes and gifts to winners of the fun quiz competitions.
