The National Auditor of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Comrade Shamdung Ayuba Jepla has accused the major nigerian political parties of serving the interests of the elites by raising the cost of party nomination forms.

Comrade Shamdung Ayuba Jepla popularly known as “SAJ” made this known in an exclusive telephone interview with our correspondent from Port Harcourt the Rivers State capital where he is on official duty.

Comrade Jepla wondered why in 2019 poor masses were urged and contributed to purchase nomination form for President Muhammadu Buhari, while ahead of the 2023 General Elections, major political parties were charging exorbitant fees for nomination forms.

Comrade Jepla noted that such actions only made it possible for the elites to use financial muscle to maintain their control over the polity, stressing that people of substance who did not have the financial capacity and godfathers were forced out to give way for godfatherism and money bags to dictate for the parties.

When asked if he was still going ahead with his political ambition of running for office to represent the people of Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Comrade Jepla said that he has decided to withdraw from the race because his honest means as a civil servant could not afford the cost of party nomination form, stressing that though he was approached by some high and mighty political merchants who offered to purchase the party nomination form for him and sponsor his campaigns, he declined their offers out of conscience and to avoid being controlled by any godfather or money bags.

Comrade Jepla pointed out that his ambition was to serve the masses, stressing that he could not accept the offer of godfathers and lie to his people over the means he got the resources for the contest if he accepts their offer.

Comrade Jepla did not however mention who he was going to support in the coming polls, stressing that he would decide according to his conscience and conviction.
