There were moments of joy and fulfillment Jos South, Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas in Plateau State, Nigeria as Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) commissioned hand pump boreholes.
The targeted communities namely Wereng Riyom District in Riyom LGA, Sot Vwang District Jos in South LGA, Kabong Tapo Heipang District in Barkin Ladi LGA and Dakan Kuru District in Jos South LGA were all facing acute water challenges before the humanitarian invention of CBN in the localities.
The water challenge was intense that the people use streams where animals feed and other unhygienic sources that potent health hazards to them.
The commissioning which started on Thursday 12th December, 2019 saw the CBN Team visiting Wereng, later they were in Sot Vwang District.
On the 2nd day, Friday 13th December, 2019, the team visited Kabong Heipang District and concluded at Dakan, Kuru District.
In all the communities visited, the Community Leaders and illustrious members applauded CBN for the humanitarian gesture and for considering them for assistance in their areas of need.
The appreciated CBN for the intervention and lauded their evangelism effort.
They said their communities have been facing serious water challenges and said the portable and safe water provided them is blessing to them. They said they have been going through water related illnesses on account of their sources of water supply saying with the assistance, they are assured of healthy and productive lives.
In all communities visited, many repented and dedicated their lives to God.
Head of the delegation, Rev. Dr. Felix Osemogie, Regional Director of CBN for West Africa appreciated the people for the warmth reception accorded them and the acceptability of the projects by the people.
He took the communities through the story of Jesus Christ and the Samaritan Woman in John 4:4–26. He charged the people to focus on Jesus Christ the water of life.
He said they will look into other areas of needs with the aim of assisting the people.
He admonished well spirited and passionate individuals to contribute to the organisation as partners so that more projects with direct impact can be carried out to the people.
CBN Director of Humanitarian Services, Rev. John Kalma said the purpose of the project is to meet the very important needs of the communities which is water.
He urged the people to make good use of the boreholes to meet their needs and guard them jealously.
In Dakan Kuru District, the member representing Jos South Constituency in Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Fom Gwottson Dalyop, the Gwom Rwey Kuru, other Damanjei (Community Heads) and other illustrious members of the Community gave the team a warmth reception.
The Legislator called on CBN to come to the aid of the Constituency which is the largest in the Country and with overwhelming challenges. He commended CBN for the humanitarian intervention and underscored the importance of water. He said he was optimistic that the community will grow to assist others without basic needs.
Gwom Rwey Kuru, HRH Da Patrick Mandung thanked CBN for the project sited in his domain and called on them to also look into other aspects such as healthcare and education.
The Director of Humanitarian Services and Regional Director were given Berom names, Pam & Dung respectively and decorated in Berom attire and were given gift of a cock as sign of acceptability, appreciation and hospitality of the people in Kabong Hamlet.
