Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Faruk Says Training of Personnel is Critical in Tackling Insecurity

Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya has hinted that capacity building through constant training of personnel is important in combating and decimating insecurity in Nigeria.
He asserted that the need for continuous training of Officers and soldiers in key if success against insurgency and other forms of crimes is to be achieved.
The Chief of Army Staff gave this hint when he declared open the Nigerian Army Inter-formation combat company Cross Country Championship 2023 holding in Plateau State from 2nd to 6th May, 2023 at Small Arms Range, Miango Jos, Plateau State.
He said since his assumption of office as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), he has made concerted efforts towards addressing the insecurity bedeviling the Country, hence the need to give priority to the training of personnel in order to harness their physical fitness, make them mentally sound and equipped to tackle insecurity.


Lt. Gen. Faruk who was represented by the Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armoured School, Maj. Gen. AA Adeleye disclosed that there is need to enhance the capacities of the personnel through regular trainings.
He said The competition is aimed at harnessing the physical fitness of Nigerian Army personnel to be able to confront contemporary security challenges. He commended the GOC 3 Division Rukuba Jos and his personnel for hosting the exercise and warned the participating Divisions and those officiating against malpractices in the competition.
He reassured Nigerians that he will not relent in his effort to achieve his vision which is to have “a professional Nigerian Army ready to accomplish assigned missions within a joint environment in defence of Nigeria”.


Earlier in his welcoming address, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander Operation Safe Haven, Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam Ibrahim who was represented by the Chief of Staff of the Division, Brig. Gen. David charged the personnel to be of good conduct throughout the competition.
He also admonished them to cooperate with the officials in order to achieve the objectives of the exercise.

Participants for the competition are drawn from all the divisions of the Nigerian Army.

The event was attended by the Bra Ngwe Irigwe of Irigwe nation HRH Rev. Ronku Aka and heads of other military and paramilitary agencies in the State.
