The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya has lauded the patriotic contributions of Retired Soldiers and Officers of the Nigerian Army.
Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya who was represented by the General Officer Commanding 3 Division Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Jos and the Commander Operation Safe Haven, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Ali made the disclosure at the Valedictory Buffet in honour of Year 2021 Discharged Soldiers with 3 Division Area of Responsibility at the Rhino Officers Mess Event Hall, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Rukuba Jos and the Regimented Dinner Night in Honour of Officers who retired in 3 Division Area of Responsibility in 2021 which held at the Rhino Officers Mess Conference Hall Maxwell Khobe Cantonment Rukuba Jos.
He commended their remarkable achievements while in active service to the Nation through the Army. He assured them that the Nigerian Army will remain grateful for the services they rendered in the defence of the Nation.
He said the celebration is an avenue to appreciate God for the grace given to the Military Personnel to render distinguished and meritorious service to the Nation in the quest to restore peace and harmony to the Country.
He urged them not to rest in their oars even in retirement until the war against insecurity which has become a threat to the Nation is brought to an end in favour of the Armed Forces and Nigeria at large.
“The Army will continue to tap from your wealth of experience and expertise in the fight against insecurity.
“My administration remains committed to enhancing the welfare of our retired/discharged personnel, within the powers of my Office.
“I reaffirm my commitment to achieving my vision to have a professional Nigerian Army ready to accomplish assigned mission with joint environment in defence of Nigeria” he said.
Earlier in his opening remarks the Commander 3 Division Garrison, Brig. Gen. Micheal Agi appreciated the laudable contributions of the retired Soldiers to the unity, peace and security of the Nation.
He said the event was to honour retired Army personnel who served the Army and Nation meticulously within the 3 Division Area of Responsibility.
In their separate remarks, Maj. Gen. Olayinka Oshinowo (Rtd) and Maj. Gen. Haruna Umaru (Rtd) who were Guests of Honour all lauded the visionary and sterling leadership provided by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya and for the well thought idea of the celebration which has increased the bond between the serving and retired personnel as well as given the Retirees a sense of belonging.
They said the retired personnel have offered patriotic and meritorious service to the Nation as well as contributed meaningfully to peace and security.
They urged those in active service to devote their time in service to the Nation and to discard tendencies capable of jeopardizing the integrity of the Nigerian Army in the elections period.
In their separate vote of thanks, Army Warrant Officer Adamu Danapu (Rtd) and Col. Abubakar Mohammed (Rtd) who spoke on behalf of the retired Soldiers and Officers respectively appreciated the Chief of Army Staff for the event to honour them for their modest service to the Nigerian Army and the Nation.
They promised to remain patriotic at all times.
The event featured presentation of Souvenirs to the Retired Army Personnel and Special Guests of Honour.
