The year 2026 opened on a note of renewed hope and political maturity in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State as Chief Moses Nwan, PhD, mni, Executive Private Secretary to Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, launched a landmark peace, unity, and development initiative for Pushit and Pukah Districts.
The event, tagged Pushit and Pukah Districts Peace and Unity Day, was held at the Mwaghavul College of Health Technology, Pushit, and drew an impressive gathering of traditional rulers, political leaders, clergy, civil servants, youth and women groups, cultural troupes, and community members from across the two districts and beyond.
The initiative was widely seen as a deliberate and symbolic move to heal historical divisions and reinforce unity between Pushit and Pukah Districts that were once a single entity while laying a solid foundation for cooperation, inclusive governance, and grassroots-driven development.
Observers described the gathering as a strategic intervention aimed at reshaping the political and social trajectory of the area through unity of purpose rather than partisan rivalry.
Throughout the programme, Chief Nwan was repeatedly celebrated as a steadfast Advocate of peace, unity, and people-centred leadership. Speakers praised his leadership style, describing it as one rooted in selfless service, integrity, balance, and fairness, with a rare ability to view issues from multiple perspectives before taking decisive action.
It was recalled that since 2003, Chief Nwan has consistently supported empowerment and humanitarian initiatives across Pushit, Pukah, and neighbouring communities. Beneficiaries testified to his interventions in support of widows, orphans, students, persons living with disabilities, and youths, portraying him as a leader who places people above politics and unity above division.
Delivering the keynote address, Bishop Professor Maurice Emmanuel Dafi of the Anglican Diocese of Maiduguri and Visiting Professor at Plateau State University, Bokkos, described Chief Nwan as an embodiment of unity, accountability, and compassion. He commended his enduring humanitarian impact and urged leaders at all levels to emulate his commitment to peace and social justice, stressing that sustainable development can only thrive in an atmosphere of harmony.
Chairman of the occasion, Elder Gyemu Tyoden, described the initiative as timely and critical, particularly at a period when Plateau State requires dialogue, unity, and collective resolve to consolidate peace. He noted that Chief Nwan’s actions have inspired many within the community to work together for shared progress.
In his address, Chief Moses Nwan, who holds the traditional title of Mishkagham Tong Riyang Pushit and serves as an Ambassador of AMPB United Nations World Peace and Positive Living under ECOSOC, said his motivation is anchored on a lifelong commitment to improving lives, especially those of the vulnerable. He emphasised that peace and unity remain the foundation upon which meaningful development is built.
Describing himself as a politician with a difference, he credited Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang—whom he called an evangelist of unity and development—for providing the moral and political backing that aligns with his vision. He clarified that the initiative was not driven by personal political ambition but by a sincere desire to support the governor’s administration and deepen grassroots cohesion.
Chief Nwan warned against divisive narratives and actions that threaten communal harmony, urging leaders and citizens to embrace dialogue, cooperation, and shared responsibility for the future of their communities.
Goodwill messages from the Plateau State PDP Chairman, Chief Raymond Dabo; Alhaji Yaro Maireke; and a representative of the state’s Permanent Secretaries reinforced the call for stakeholders to rally behind the peace and development agenda for its full realisation.
The event featured colourful cultural performances celebrating the shared heritage of Pushit and Pukah, symbolising unity, mutual respect, and collective aspiration. District heads from both communities applauded Chief Nwan for his consistent role as a bridge-builder and urged all sons and daughters of the districts to support the initiative.
Held under the theme “In One Accord,” the Pushit–Pukah Peace and Unity Initiative was widely regarded as more than a political alignment. Participants noted that it represents a unity of purpose that transcends party lines, strengthens governance outcomes, promotes peace, and positions the communities as key contributors to a stronger Plateau State.
As the ceremony drew to a close, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Dr Zechariah Kuden, called on Residents of Pushit, Pukah, and the wider Plateau community to sustain the momentum through inclusivity, cooperation, and collective action, describing the initiative as the dawn of a new era of hope, strength, and shared responsibility.
