The PDP has issued a statement calling on President Buhari to urgently stem the rising tide of unbridled bloodletting in most parts of the country, with specific reference to Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, Southern Kaduna, Kogi, etc.

Honestly, the PDP should have outrightly demanded for Buhari’s immediate resignation. He deceived Nigerians with a promise to rid the country of terrorism, banditry and all other forms insecurity bedeviling country during his 2015 campaigns.Unfortunately, five years down the line, Nigerians are still grappling with renewed and even more audacious regurgence of these same bloody atrocities.

Apparently, he has woefully failed to protect the lives and property of majority of Nigerians – his major constitutional responsibility as Commander-in- Chief of the armed forces.

The bitter truth is that he is helpless in the area of changing these clueless security chiefs because they have become too powerful for him to control. If you ask me, it’s the security chiefs that are now calling the shots, rather than this lame duck president.

They are holding him hostage and ordinary Nigerians are daily paying the heavy price with their lives, property, livelihoods and, most importantly, their sense of humanity which is being brutally ravaged with impunity.

Sadly, the security chiefs will love for this state of anarchy to persist because it’s lining their pockets. The situation is even more pathetic now in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic that is taking its toll on these same hapless citizens.

The way things stand now, Nigerians are face to face with two equally deadly and bloodthirsty evils – the Buhari government’s failures to protect them and COVID-19.

In a democracy, the only way out is for the president who has so glaringly failed to live up to his main constitutional responsibility to resign. If not, the damage Buhari will continue to wreak on human lives and property may at the end of the day even surpass COVID-19 casualties.
Should hapless Nigerians continually accept to remain between this horrific rock and a terror-ridden hard place?
