Efforts by top officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to convince President Muhammadu Buhari to approve names of candidates they submitted to him for ministerial appointments have proved abortive, as the president continues to brush aside such names,  ViewPointNigeria can report.

The turn of events has been causing frustration among party chieftains who, indeed, felt that the APC should have a larger say in who should make the Cabinet under Buhari.

A National official of APC told our correspondent in confidence that Buhari’s body language of late is that of a man who has dumped the party since he has not been making consultations with the officials as expected.

There are reports from the party headquarters that two times members of APC suggested names of possible appointees to Buhari and two times the President discountenanced the lists with insistence that he should not be put under pressure unduly to form his cabinet.

Buhari had earlier explained the steps he will take to constitute his cabinet even as he declared that he would not take dictations from anyone, including state governors on who he will appoint as Ministers.

The President has insisted that he would not follow the existing trend laid down by the PDP on cabinet composition, stating that the trend which has been on since the past 16 years had allowed ineffective and corrupt individuals to be Ministers.

The crisis within the APC occasioned by the hijack of the National Assembly power by Senator Bukola Saraki and Representative Yakubu Dogara has rather been compounding the situation for APC.

More worrisome for APC is the contention for its central authority among the splinter groups, which have been finding it difficult to agree on any issue of common interests in their fold.

Some members of APC disclosed that the center can no longer hold in APC, first because of the perceived gang up against its National leader, Asiwaju Tinubu as well as the noticeable resolve by President Buhari not to allow any of the groups within the APC take preeminence over him.

Tinubu who members said has not been happy with the turn of events within APC, has reportedly left Nigeria to avoid more issues from the party likely to further set him at an edge.

There are indications also that some governors who defected from the PDP to join the APC including Rotimi Amaechi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Magatakarda Wamakko, Abdulfatah Ahmed and Rochas Okorocha, are beginning to feel alienated, while Kwankwaso spoke out their minds just a week ago.

Expectations are high, however that Buhari may forward the list of ministerial nominees to the Senate this week, since an ad hoc committee he had constituted to this effect has started work, according to reports.
