Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Plateau State, have expressed total dismay over the state’s chairman’s style of leadership, which they described as autocratic, stating that the Chairman – Letep Dabang – in his daily running of the party’s affairs was selfish and alienating a large majority of member.

Speaking with journalists in Jos, some members of the party executive council claimed that, since the declaration of the victory of Governor Simon Lalong, Dabang had refused to call a meeting, just as he had not consulted the party organs on its affairs. All they hear, from external sources, was how he was compiling names of persons for political appointments into the about-to-be-formed cabinet and his personal ambition for a ministerial appointment, they alleged.

It was also alleged that during the preparation of the swearing in of Lalong, Letep Dabang was at large for reasons unknown to them. As a result of his absence, the various arms of the party that organised the swearing in ceremony degenerated and depended on the ingenuity of members to sustain such an important event. Similarly, a gubernatorial candidate, during the party’s primaries flayed Dabang’s disdain for some of them. He decried how the situation was already threatening the well-being of the party in the post-election period in the state.

When our partners in Jos contacted Dabang on phone, he debunked the allegations and attributed them to what he termed the handiwork of political detractors, who were bent on destroying the party. He denied penciling down names for appointments into any offices, saying due process had to be followed.
