Information available to ViewPointNigeria indicates that Ambassador Bagudu Hirse, the Former Minister of Foreign Affairs and past Gubernatorial aspirant in Plateau was this afternoon abducted by three gunmen.
Our source reports that the incident happen right in front of the residence of President Muhammadu Buhari’s powerful nephew, Alhaji Mamman Daura, on Inuwa Wada road in Kaduna.
Hirse in the company of his friend, had gone to pay condolence visit to the family of the late Sultan of Sokoto, Ibrahim Dasuki on Kabiru road, few meters away from Inuwa Wada road and was said to have decided to make a quick stopover at the house of Daura who was at home and was receiving guests and other family members.
An eye witness told newsmen that Hirse alighted with a friend he simply identified as Talba (Sam Pukat) from his car and was exchanging pleasantries with some guests who were standing in front of the house, when an ash coloured Toyota Corolla car drove into the street at top speed and stopped in front of Hirse and his friends.
He said the three armed masked young men jumped down from the car and accosted the former minister almost immediately.
“From what I could hear, they were asking him to get into their car but he was trying to seek further explanations from them but at that time, people started approaching the scene so one of them raised the gun he was holding and made an attempt to shoot but it did not fire, he tried it the second time and it failed, but the third time, a shot rang and people ran for dear lives.
At the time of filing this report, ViewPointNigeria had contacted the family members to commiserate with them and get finer details. A close family source confirmed that Talba himself was not kidnapped but got injured in the process and was in hospital.
It is thought the real person probably being sought by the kidnappers was Mamman Daura himself, but Ambassador Hirse may have been mistaken for him.
Once the incident happened the IG and all security outfits were notified and investigations are said to be proceeding with the needed urgency.
