Wednesday 21st July 2016 – Protests are taking place in several parts of Plateau as people continue to demand justice for the assassination of the Saf Ron.
In Bokkos town however, the protest was said to have been thrown into Jeopardy as 2 youths were shot dead by men of the Nigerian Army following confrontations with security agents.
Sources on the ground in Bokkos claim that the protest was largely peaceful, but that there might have been slight provocation in some quarters leading to the death of some youths.
The anger and condemnation that has trailed the assassination of the monarch has led to tension and apprehension in the entire state, with accusations and counter accusations. Religious leaders and politicians have however appealed for calm, promising that the security agents are on the heels of the assassins.
However, last night 2 people were said to have been killed in Sha village, following an attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen, leading to the burning of a church the community. Equally, 2 days ago, Bokkos youths were said to have attacked several Fulani settlements, leading to the destruction of property and goods.
The governor of the state, Hon. Simon Lalong – through his media aide, released a statement condemning the attacks and appealing for understanding and restraint. Lalong promised that government is doing everything within its power to bring the perpetrators of the act to book.
