Berom Youths Pass Vote of no Confidence on Sector 4 Commander Over Rising Insecurity in Barkin Ladi

The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) under the leadership of Barr. Solomon Dalyop has expressed grave concern over the worsening security situation in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area and announced a Vote of No Confidence on the Sector 4 Commander of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), Col. Victor Asuquo, and the Sector Operations Officer, Captain Bello.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, the Association accused the security leadership of gross incompetence, negligence, and failure to protect lives and property despite the heavy deployment of security personnel across the area.
BYM lamented that between April and 9th May 2026, no fewer than 34 persons were reportedly killed in separate attacks across communities in Barkin Ladi, while over 70 hectares of farmlands were allegedly destroyed by armed Fulani militias.

The Association particularly condemned the killing of Mr. Gyang Kim Choji, who was murdered a few metres away from a military checkpoint located in front of his residence despite accommodating security personnel in his home.

According to BYM, repeated complaints by residents over the conduct of some security personnel were ignored, while attacks have continued unabated across several communities including Sabon Layi, Rakung, Gangare, and areas around the General Hospital in Barkin Ladi town.
The Association further expressed concern over an alleged statement credited to the Sector Commander suggesting that residents “will see what will happen in the next two months since they are rejecting the military,” describing the remark as disturbing and dangerous in light of the worsening security situation.

BYM demanded the immediate redeployment of Col. Victor Asuquo and Captain Bello, insisting that the people of Barkin Ladi have completely lost confidence in their leadership and ability to secure the area.
The Association also called on the Chief of Defence Staff, the Commander of Operation Safe Haven, and relevant federal authorities to urgently intervene and overhaul the security architecture in Barkin Ladi before the situation degenerates further.

BYM warned that continued silence and weak response to the attacks would only embolden the perpetrators and deepen the suffering of innocent communities.
