The relative peace being enjoyed in Plateau state suffered unfortunate setback at the weekend with beheading of a berom native in Gyel area of Jos South Local government area.

This is happening at the backdrop of a recent peace parley held at the instance of the Senator of the Northern zone Mr. GNS Pwajok, to end the spate of violence in the area.  The crucial peace parley had in attendance leaders of both the Fulani and Berom communities, as well as STF operatives and policemen. At the meeting, the leaders of both groups promised to liaise with their respective religious leaders to extol peace and preach forgiveness to their subjects as a means of ending the recurrent bloodshed.

ViewPointNigeria, however gathers that following this peace parley, a berom man who went out of his house in the early hours of Sunday to ease himself in the nearby bushes was killed and beheaded by unknown gunmen who invaded Gyel area of Jos South LGA. A source close to the scence confirmed that following the incident, the assailant made away with the victims head and released several warning shots in the air to warn away gathering villagers.

When contacted, the state police public relations officer, DSP Felicia Anslem, confirmed the incident and that the police had already commenced investigating the incident.
