BEFORE PLATEAU GOES INTO ANOTHER TOTAL LOCKDOWN (1) – BY CHRIS GYANG

Citizens trust their leaders based on the leaders’ constitutional pledge to defend their lives and property, most especially now that COVID-19 is ravaging the whole world.

When the Lalong government imposed a one week lockdown so as to fumigate the state, citizens duly complied and stayed indoors throughout that period.

However, first, the government has not, up till today, come out to tell Plateau citizens how much they spent on that exercise, in line with the principle of governmental accountability.

There are speculations that the government spent about 500 million naira on the fumigation! If that’s true, then the Lalong must explain how more than 50 per cent of Plateau people never saw any of the fumigators in their localities!!

Is Lalong, just as the Federal Government, using the COVID-19 pandemic to scam suffering masses?

Citizens believe their leaders and abide by their instructions, based on trust. Once this trust is breached, citizens will definitely stop believing them and will very likely resort to self- help and, or, dissent. The citizens’ resilience and patience have been stretched to breaking point now!!!

We shall talk again.
