BE PATIENT WITH EACH OTHER IN RESOLVING OUR LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE – Sen JT Useni tells Plateau PDP Stakeholders.
Governorship Candidate of the Plateau PDP in the 2019 election, Lt. Gen. (Rtd), Sen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni has appealed to all stakeholders to be tolerant of one another as part of the crucial steps in resolving the leadership challenge in the Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Addressing a stakeholders meeting of the party on Tuesday, October 29th 2019 at the party secretariat in Jos, Sen. Useni, in company of his Deputy Dr.James Dalok, said “Let’s be patient with each other and try to explain things to one another.”
Gen. Useni outlined many actions he had taken in the recent past to bring the situation to an amicable resolution. These included meetings with stakeholders across board both in Plateau and Abuja “to make sure the ground is solid.“
“As far as I am concerned PDP is intact. I will work with everybody. I am a democrat and will follow democratic norms in talking to our officials and stakeholders on the need to have peace in the party. We should look forward to working with everyone who wants to have a change of heart and rebuild the party.”
Sen Useni called on members to patiently await the official release of the the report of the Senator David Mark Committee which has rounded up its very wide consultation on the matter.
He charged party leaders and supporters to remain united in purpose and hopeful of the appeal he has filed against the tribunal judgement. “No one should be afraid of what is happening. Believe in yourselves. Trust in God.”
Earlier, the convener of the meeting, Honourable Damishi Sango, explained that he was meeting with the stakeholders to brief them on some vital happenings in the party.
He brought to their attention two official letters from Wadata Plaza, Abuja which were personally addressed to him as Chairman of the PDP in Plateau. These were all read to the hearing of the stakeholders. One was from the National Organising Secretary Colonel Austin Akobundu, on “ *Communication with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other Relevant Bodies.”* This letter was copied to National Vice Chairman, North Central, Hon Thephilus Dakas Shan. The second letter was the Governor of Bauchi State, Sen Bala Mohammed who also doubles as Chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council on the upcoming Bayelsa Governorship polls. It invites the Plateau chapter to the National Campaign Rally holding in the State capital Yanegoa on November 6, 2019. Plateau State is expected to send 200 party supporters. On this, the stakeholders set up a five member committee to advise on how to undertake a successful outing.
On campaign funds for which a petition had been written against him to the national secretariat of the party, Hon. Sango said,
“Our hands are clean. I stand here and confirm to you that no one has cheated you of any campaign money. I will not resign. The way their allegation against me went viral is the way I am saying that once the Senator Mark committee clears me, let the report also go viral. I am the chairman of the party in Plateau, and correspondences are addressed to me, not to anyone else.”
The stakeholders resolved to stand by the truth always and called for all efforts to be made to unite and strengthen the party.
They emphasised the necessity of deploying the social media for positive causes, and called for creative leadership to have more of such meetings. They called for the building of bridges of peace and encouragement, devoid of insults and divisions.
The meeting adopted a resolution to fully identity with the leadership of Hon Damishi Sango for the courage he has exhibited so far until a final resolution of the challenges of party by the national secretariat of the party.
