ASUU Strike: ASUU in Talks with Federal Government
D.M Longgul reports
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has reported recording “progress” in its negotiations with the Federal Government (FGN) aimed at resolving the disputes that led to the ongoing warning strike.
VPN sources confirmed by our reporter that the union confirmed that the government, through its agents, has returned to the negotiation table.
The National Strike Coordinating Committee (NSCC), also met on Saturday, October 18, 2025, to review the situation, concluded the following:
The government’s Renegotiation Team, led by Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, has presented a documented response to ASUU’s demands and made certain offers to the Union.
Attention of relevant Senate Committees has been drawn to ASUU’s demands, and the committees have met with the Union’s leadership, leading to some decisions being reached.
Progress is being recorded in several specific areas, including the release of third-party deductions, payment of arrears of promotions, mainstreaming of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), resolution of the confiscation of UNIABUJA land, and the victimisation of members in KSU, LASU, and FUTO.
Again , Engagements are continuing on all elements of the draft renegotiated 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement, guided by the principles of Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)
The warning strike was activated following the government’s failure to satisfactorily conclude and implement the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement and address other union demands after a 14-day ultimatum.
