ASTC Takes Fumigation Exercise to Shendam, Qua’anpan, Mikang, Wase and Kanam LGAs

The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong on Friday 10th April, 2020 flagged off the Fumigation Exercise which he said will take place across the 17 Local Government Areas of the State.

Today, the ASTC Team responsible for the exercise carried out the fumigation of Shendam, Mikang, Qua’anpan, Wase & Kanam simultaneously.

While responding to Online Reporters in the areas visited, the MD/CEO of Agricultural Services and Training Centre (ASTC), Dr. Susan Bentu said they were there to decontaminate the areas in line with government directive aimed at getting rid of not only the Coronavirus but other deadly and infectious diseases such as Lassa Fever and Malaria caused by rodents and mosquitoes.

Dr. Susan said the fumigation is aimed at killing germs such as bacteria, virus, fungus and other microorganisms.

She lauded the efforts of the Lalong-led administration in its proactive steps to curb the spread of the dread coronavirus and commitment to public health.

“The Governor has displayed commitment to ensure a secured and healthy Plateau State is attained” she said.

She commended the people in the areas visited for complying with the lockdown order of government and understanding which made the fumigation exercise easier, faster, more effective and successful by staying indoors in order not to be contaminated with chemicals from the fumigation exercise.

The Councils’ Officials of all the areas visited in their separate remarks applauded Gov. Simon Lalong for taking the fumigation exercise to the Local Government Area and for the lockdown order to achieve a Plateau State free from COVID-19.

They appreciated the people for the level of compliance achieved and thanked the security agencies for enforcing compliance.

They frowned at how people are being smuggled others from States with confirmed cases into the State. They called on the security agencies to be put more vigilance in play and arrest all violators of the lockdown order for prosecution.

They charged the people to remain at home, obey all preventive, safety and precautionary measures advised by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), World Health Organization (WHO) and government directives which are for public good and in their best interest to enhance a more healthy society and population.

They promised to provide more palliatives to cushion the effects of COVID-19 which has affected the socio-economic well-being of the people and appealed to the Federal Government to provide more welfare interventions to the masses especially the vulnerable and less privileged.
