APC Will Soon Disintegrate – Sen. Jonah Jang
By Francis Etuko
Former Plateau state governor, Senator Jonah Jang is confident that the ruling All Progressive Congress will soon disintegrate.
Speaking during an interaction with newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, the Plateau state lawmaker said the opposition People’s Democratic Party will come out of its elective convention scheduled for December 2, 2017 stronger.
His words “The preparation for elective convention is getting on very well and I will tell you one thing PDP is the only Democratic Party in the country”
“Since APC came into government have they held any convention and yet they are the party in government”.
“They are so afraid to hold any convention because they are mixture of people with different thinking”.
“The ball will soon scatter and you will see how the PDP will come out of its convention very strong and ready to take over government in this country, by the grace of God”
Commenting after senate on Wednesday debated a motion on the spate of attacks on Zamfara and Mubi, Adamawa state, senator Jang lamented some highly placed persons were financing the insurgent group, Boko Haram.
“Today, are you telling me that people don’t know what is behind Boko Haram, Boko Haram is beyond what we think, but for whatever reason people are financing and backing Boko Haram only God knows”
He also lamented how those arrested for serious security breaches and offences escape prosecution by orders coming from Abuja to influence their transfer and subsequent escape from justice.
“This security situation started with the return to democracy which started in 1999, Plateau had been in the forefront, there was a time we arrested people from Niger and Chad in Plateau state, we still have their pictures back in Jos, the IG sent that he people be transferred to Abuja immediately so that they will investigate here”
“But I know that the constitution of this country, say that where you commit crime and arrested is where you will be investigated, two or three times we arrested persons who committed security breaches they were transferred to Abuja where they are released”
“It is my candid opinion that there are some people who are targeting some specific areas in the country and they are behind what is happening otherwise why were these people brought here and released without investigation, without been charged yet they were caught with arms”
“That’s why I said on the floor of the Senate that people commit offences and are not punished because they have godfathers who have sent them to do what they do, so they have the confidence to do what they do because they know they would be released”
While commenting on the fracas involving operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes commission, the national Intelligence Agency and the Department of State Security Service in Abuja, Senator Jang urged President Buhari to wade into the matter as a matter of urgency.
He added thus “if the Security agencies cannot even synergize then who is looking after the security of this country”
Senator Jang was however quick to address Nigerians about the intricacies surrounding motions moved on the floor of the senate or House of Representatives and the need for the watchful populace to be properly educated “If you ask me how many of these motions get to the president”
“I have been on the Executive side of governance for a period spanning several years, I was a military governor for eleven years in this country”.
“I have been studying what is happening in the legislature, the question you have asked is pertinent, as a governor the House of Assembly was passing motions and motions are just advisory, I think most of us use these motions to show the people at home that we are doing something here”.
“Because I have been asked at home that, they have not been seeing me talking, so I asked them that, so if I don’t talk it means I am not doing anything”.
“You see the understanding of politics in this country is quite low, so people see your occupying a place in the executive, the people see you doing this and that and they conclude that you are working but now you are in the legislature, they fail to realize that you cannot even talk on the floor of the Senate until the Senate President yields the floor to you to make your contributions, no matter how much you raise your hands, back in our constituencies how many people understand that”
“The honest truth is that some of us use these motions to tell our constituencies that we are working here”
