A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Mustapha Mohammed, has died after the car in which he was travelling crashed along Mafa-Maiduguri road, Borno State.

Alhaji Mustapha Mohammed who was the Mai Kanuribe (head of Kaburi people) in Lagos alongside his friend were “pronounced dead” at the scene while one other person survived the crash, an eyewitness said.

The witness said the deceased who was travelling in a Jeep, Lexus SUV model from Mafa town had accompanied Governor Babagana Zulum to flag-off the APC membership registration and revalidation exercise in a convoy of dozens of vehicles.

“They were actually part of the convoy escort team but were ahead of the governor,” He said.

“The single-vehicle accident occurred when the speeding SUV lost control, veered off the road into the bush and summersaulted.

“The accident was caused by tyre failure,” the witness said.
