No fewer than 50 indigent students of Tarok extraction were registered for the 2021 West African Examination Council (WAEC) by the Dangin Foundation.
The beneficiaries, cutting across the four Districts of Langtang North Local Government Area, are final year students of various secondary schools in the area, who are from poor backgrounds.
Chairperson of the foundation and widow of the late Senator VK Dangin, Chief Mrs Loko Dangin, said the mission of the foundation is to assuage the sufferings of the less privileged in the society, starting with her late husband’s immediate community, in consonance with the aphorism that charity begins at home.
The registration, running into millions of Naira, covers the WAEC registration and school fees of the beneficiaries in their various schools.
Highlighting modalities for selecting the beneficiaries, Chief Mrs Dangin said District Heads of the four districts in Langtang North and the acting Chairperson of Langtang Joint Traditional Councils were contacted to submit names of their poor subjects whose children are in the final year in the secondary school, who might encounter difficulties in paying their children or ward’s WAEC fees.
The same modalities were applied last year to register the first batch of 50 beneficiaries, most of whom have passed the examination with good grades, thereby motivating the foundation to sustain the gesture and make it a yearly event.
Already, the foundation has collated results of the beneficiaries of last year’s registration, to help them secure admission in various institutions of higher learning, with the view to giving them scholarships through their academic pursuit at the higher level.
Chief Mrs Loko said the foundation is into humanitarian services of different kinds, positing that the foundation had sunk 8 boreholes in different communities in Langtang North last year.
In the same vein, the foundation had donated one million naira to the Langtang North Covid-19 palliative fund last year, and donated cartons of hand sanitizers and face masks in an effort to help curtail spread of the hydra headed pandemic.
