A Rallying Cry for National Representation: Senator Simon Mwadkwon’s Candidacy for PDP National Chairmanship

15th April, 2024
Hon. Umar Muhammad Sani

Senator Simon Mwadkwon Davou’s journey from a grassroots politician to a national figure within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is nothing short of remarkable. His career, which began as a Local Government Chairman, has seen him ascend to become a two-term member of the House of Representatives, a Senator representing the people of Plateau North Senatorial District, and even a former Senate Minority Leader.

Plateau state, a historical stronghold of the PDP and the birthplace of the party, has not seen one of its own hold the position of National Chairman since the tenure of Solomon Daushep Lar from 1998 to 1990. Despite the unwavering loyalty and consistent support of the Plateau people towards the PDP, the lack of representation at the national level has been glaring.

Senator Simon Mwadkwon hails from Plateau North, a zone where the PDP has never lost an election since its inception. The recent elections showcased Plateau’s dedication to the party, with resounding victories in the Governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly seats. The region, positioned at the heart of the North Central, has been vital in producing exceptional leaders, with only Plateau having a governor in the entire zone.

However, recent legal challenges that led to the dismissal of all legislators in the state underscore the need for strong national representation. The PDP in Plateau has faced challenges, but with a resurgence in momentum, the time is ripe for Senator Simon Mwadkwon to assume the role of National Chairman.

It is crucial for key figures within the PDP, including the 2023 Presidential Candidate, Former Vice President Alh. Atiku Abubakar, Chairman of PDP Governors, Gov. Bala Mohammed, Acting National Chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagum, and Chairman BoT, Adolphus Wabara, to consider Senator Simon Mwadkwon for the esteemed position of PDP National Chairman in the upcoming elections. His unwavering commitment, loyalty, and deep-rooted connection to the party make him the ideal candidate to lead the party to new heights. This move would not only rejuvenate the PDP in Plateau but also strengthen its national presence.
