A new Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Hon. Damishi Sango, said on Wednesday that his exco has been given a mandate to reconcile aggrieved members and ensure the party reclaimed the leadership of the State in 2019.
Sango disclosed this at the party Secretariat in Jos, after receiving the mantle of leadership from the Acting Chairman of the party in the State, Hon. Raymond Dabo.
He said, “This Exco has the mandate to reconcile members and restore PDP to the Government House come 2019.”
According to him, several stakeholders from the State, including elders, clerics, traditional rulers among others have been calling him, saying, “we are waiting for PDP; PDP give us hope again. So by the grace of God, we shall reach the promised land.
“APC has no business on the Plateau, by the grace of God, PDP will reclaim power come 2019.
“I have never seen a new government in power, that nobody is eager to join their party.”
Sango who was a former Minister of Sports, further said, ” Whatever we are going to do which will divide this party, we are not going to allow it.”
He assured party faithfuls that he and members of his Exco will work hard to revive the party in the State, and that he will tour all the 17 local governments in the State and ensure that those that were aggrieved as a result of last Congress were brought back.
In his earlier remarks, the former Chairman of the party, who was Chairman of the Integrity Group that stood against the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the 2015 polls, Prof. Dakum Shown, assured that the aggrieved members will return to the party’s fold, to propel victory in the 2019 elections.
On his part, the outgoing Chairman of the party, Hon. Raymond Dabo, said he was happy that he was handing over to an Exco that will surely restore the party to winning ways.
Dabo said, “I’m very happy because none of my members have defected to the APC.”
He added that, despite the party’s loss in the gubernatorial election last year, the party Secretariat remained functional, saying “it shows that the Plateau people believe in PDP”.
Among those present at the occasion were the Deputy Governorship candidate of the party in the last election, Arch. Yilji Gomwalk, former minister of water resources, Mrs Sarah Ochepe, former members of the federal/state assemblies, among others.
