A group in Plateau state under the aegis of Gwol Conversation on Monday threw its weight behind a Bill sponsored by Hon Istifanus Gyang for an Act to alter the first schedule to section 3 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria CFRN. 1999 as amended to alter the name of Barkin Lari to it,s proper name of Gwol Local government of Plateau state .

Coordinator of the group, Rondong Washpam, while addressing news men yesterday in Barkin Ladi local government said “Recently our Member in the house of Representatives Istifanus Gyang took a bold step by sponsoring the bill , which is aimed at altering the name Barikin Ladi for the aboriginal and native name Gwol ”

“This is worthy of commendation and support “.

” We want to appreciate his laudable and timely effort in sponsoring a generational, ‎ historic and people oriented bill which aligns with our culture and identity as a people.

” We want to state that this bill is timely for the name Barkin Ladi which misrepresent the aboriginal identify and indigenous roots of the local government and Is a colonial distortion that has to be corrected “.

” We the entire members of Gwol Conversation humbly appeal to all Nigerians to support and endorse this constitution alteration bill that meets our yearnings and is therefore a top priority to the people of Gwol.

” The Gwol Conversation would further demonstrates it’s support for this uncommon and celebrated bill by coordinating the collection of signatures for or against the bill from the constituents of Gwol. He further added.
