In a bid to finalise all on-going projects in the state, the Plateau State Government yesterday approved the sum of N7.9 billion for the completion of various capital projects within the state –these projects include several road networks within Jos and Bukuru metropolis and the purchase of new fire-fighting vehicles to combat fire mishaps in the state. This development was made known to pressmen by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Yiljap Abraham after the state executive’s usual press meeting on Monday –which was chaired by the State Deputy Governor, Mr Ignatius Longjan, at the Jishe Governor’s Lodge.

He said, “The State Executive Council has approved a total of N7.9 billion for the execution of various road projects in the State and we are glad that we are undertaking this within the very lean resources of the state.” He went further to say that State Government was working very hard to make sure that the 5km road projects on-going in all the local government areas were completed before 2015 in order to deliver real benefits to the populace. He also confirmed that the state executive council had deliberated and approved various project extensions and variations to the work scope of six road projects in the state and that these were in all the zones.

Furthermore, he said the State Government has also approved the sum of N237 million for the procurement of 9 fire fighting vehicles, to forestall fire incidents, especially during the dry season. Arguing that the state government was not only executing capital projects but also ensuring that the welfare of the citizenry as well as their spiritual obligations are taken care of. In that regard therefore, he enthused that the state executive council has approved the sum of N300 million for this year’s pilgrimage to Mecca. This is another way of building the spiritual and moral capacity of the people of Plateau State to remain peaceful, fruitful and also to help them prepare for life hereafter.

Commenting on the displaced persons from Nasarawa State i.e., following the sectarian crisis in the state, Yiljap said over 7, 000 people displaced from the unrest are now in Plateau State, particularly in Quaan Pan Local Government Area in the Southern Senatorial District. According to him, “The state executive council has expressed very deep concern regarding their situation and has directed that every effort be made to reinforce what has already been done by NEMA in providing relief materials. He then went on to confirm that the state Deputy Governor, Mr Ignatius Longjan, would be leading a state government delegation to visit the displaced persons in the area.
