Two people were reportedly killed and 10 houses razed late on Friday when unidentified gunmen attacked a village in Langtang South area of Plateau state. Gunmen, numbering approximately 20, were said to have launched an attack on Nbiyak village -a predominantly Tarok enclave not far from the Taraba border. The attackers were said to have set several houses ablaze and opened fire sporadically on residents as they attempted to escape. The attack was said to have lasted approximately 1 hour and at the end 2 corpses were seen lying on the ground in the aftermath of the carnage. 

Speaking to our reporter, a member of the community -Mr Samuel Wuyep, said they had heard rumours that some people, suspected to be Fulani, were planning to attack the village. He said “We quickly alerted  security agencies about the rumour but they did not respond.

He confirmed that some members of the community were still unaccounted for and that the damage may be worst than initially thought. 

At the time of filing this report, the spokesman of Operation Safe Haven Captain Salisu Mustapha, could not be reached for comments. 

It would be recalled that the last months have witnessed several attacks and counter-attacks between nomadic Fulani herdsmen and the aboriginal Tarok farmers in the area. Some of which were reported carried out in Taraba state.
