Army Rewards Soldier N500,000 for Rejecting Bribe from Suspected Kidnapper

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), Major General Maxwell Dangana, has rewarded a soldier, Private Utim Terwase, with N500,000 for rejecting an alleged bribe from a suspected notorious kidnapper.

Terwase reportedly apprehended the suspect following an attempted escape but rejected money allegedly offered in exchange for his release and handed him over to the appropriate authorities.

The spokesman for Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Polycarp Chinonso Oteh, disclosed this in a statement, saying the reward was presented on behalf of the GOC by the Commander of Sector 6, Colonel Philimon Malgwi.

Dangana commended the soldier for demonstrating honesty, discipline and professionalism, describing his conduct as a reflection of the highest standards of military service.

He said Terwase chose integrity over personal gain by refusing to compromise his duty, adding that the N500,000 reward was equivalent to the bribe he reportedly rejected.

The GOC urged other military personnel to emulate the soldier’s exemplary conduct, stressing that the recognition underscored the Army’s commitment to accountability, ethical conduct and professionalism.

He reaffirmed the military’s resolve to encourage personnel to discharge their constitutional responsibilities with integrity, discipline and dedication.
