At least three people have been killed and several others injured in a shooting incident at Mangu Friday Market yesterday, 18th September, 2026.

This was contained in a statement signed by the President of the Mwaghavul Youth Movement (MYM), Mr. Jonathan Kyesmang, through the Director of Public Affairs of the Movement, Mr. Tubwot Joel Sunday.
In the statement, the incident happened at the close of market hours when traders were getting ready to return home, when gunmen suspected to be Fulani militia opened fire on a vehicle loaded with passengers, killing three people on the spot, while others escaped with various degrees of bullet wounds including a minor and are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

The MYM President condemned the barbaric act in its entirety and called on the government and relevant authorities to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to book, while sending his condolences to the families of the bereaved.
The MYM, while appreciating security agencies in Mangu for working tirelessly to ensure lives and properties are protected, also called on them to do more and put new measures in place to curtail the continuous loss of lives.
As of the time of filing this report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Mangu and other relevant security agencies have not yet issued any official statement concerning the incident.
