The Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Council, Hon. Pirfa Jingfa Tyem, has responded to growing public discussions surrounding budgetary provisions and project implementation in the council area, urging residents to rely on verified information and official records when assessing government activities.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kum Precious, the chairman commended citizens for their interest in governance, accountability, and development, describing public participation as a vital component of democratic governance.
The chairman, however, expressed concern over what he described as misconceptions arising from interpretations of budgetary documents and project information circulating on social media and other platforms.
According to the statement, the approved budget of Langtang North Local Government Council remains a public document and is accessible through the Plateau State Government’s transparency platform. Residents were encouraged to consult official documents and verified sources when seeking information on public finances, projects, and government activities.
The statement emphasized that a budget serves as a planning and appropriation document that outlines proposed projects, anticipated revenues, projected expenditures, and development priorities for a fiscal period. It noted that the inclusion of projects in a budget does not necessarily imply that such projects have been completed, abandoned, or fully funded at the time the budget is published.
The chairman explained that projects typically pass through stages such as planning, procurement, mobilization, implementation, supervision, and completion, urging members of the public to exercise caution before drawing conclusions regarding projects contained in current fiscal budgets.
Addressing specific concerns raised in recent public discussions, the statement noted that several projects referenced by critics fall under the 2026 fiscal framework and are currently at different stages of implementation.
Among the projects highlighted was the construction of the Supervisory Councillors’ Office at the Local Government Secretariat, which the council said is currently ongoing.
The chairman also disclosed that procurement processes for the council’s solar streetlight initiative have been concluded, while arrangements are underway for shipment, installation, and deployment.
Similarly, the statement revealed that work is progressing at Zamko Market, where fencing activities are ongoing, while boreholes have already been drilled to support the planned construction of sanitation and toilet facilities aimed at improving hygiene and commercial activities within the market.
The council maintained that presenting ongoing projects as abandoned initiatives creates a misleading impression that does not accurately reflect the realities on the ground.
Hon. Tyem, who assumed office in October 2024, further urged residents to distinguish between projects and expenditures that predate his administration and those being undertaken under the current leadership.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public resources, the chairman stated that the council would soon commence a series of public updates showcasing ongoing and completed projects across the local government area.
According to the statement, the updates will include photographs, project locations, implementation status reports, timelines, and other relevant information to enable citizens to track progress and remain informed about developmental interventions being undertaken by the council.
The chairman reiterated his commitment to delivering impactful projects across key sectors, including education, agriculture, security, health, water resources, infrastructure, youth development, and community advancement.
He assured residents that ongoing projects and development initiatives would continue to receive the attention necessary to ensure their successful completion and maximum benefit to communities across Langtang North.
