The Executive Secretary of the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Audu Echuseh, has intensified efforts to strengthen disaster response and management across Taraba State through coordinated emergency interventions and strategic partnerships.

In recent days, Dr. Echuseh has overseen multiple on-site assessments of fire incidents in Jalingo metropolis, reinforcing the agency’s rapid response to emergencies. Acting through senior officials, the SEMA boss directed assessment teams to affected communities, including Jeka da Fari and Nana Aisha, where fires—reportedly caused by electrical faults—destroyed residential buildings and displaced families.
During the visits, SEMA officials assured victims of the state government’s support, conveying the commitment of Governor Agbu Kefas to provide relief and assist affected households in rebuilding their lives.
Under Dr. Echuseh’s leadership, the agency also responded to separate fire outbreaks at a Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) filling station in the Roadblock area and at Amana Fara’u Plastics warehouse in the Saurara axis of Jalingo. The incidents, which resulted in significant financial losses, prompted immediate damage assessments and the initiation of recovery plans.
Dr. Echuseh emphasized the importance of proactive safety measures, directing the agency to intensify public awareness on fire prevention, particularly during the dry season. She urged residents and business owners to prioritize electrical safety, install fire-fighting equipment, and adhere strictly to safety protocols to avert future disasters.
Beyond emergency response within the state, the SEMA boss has also taken steps to strengthen regional disaster preparedness. She recently joined heads of emergency management agencies from North-East states at a strategic meeting with the World Bank, aimed at enhancing coordination and resilience across the region.
The meeting focused on key issues such as disaster risk trends, including floods and drought, gaps in response capacity, and the need for improved early warning systems. It also explored strategies for better data utilization and stronger institutional collaboration in disaster management.
Dr. Echuseh’s participation underscored Taraba State’s commitment to building a more responsive and effective emergency management system under the leadership of Governor Kefas.
Stakeholders at the meeting agreed on actionable steps to improve disaster response frameworks, with a focus on protecting lives, safeguarding livelihoods, and reducing vulnerability to future emergencies.
Through these combined efforts, Dr. Echuseh continues to position the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency as a proactive and responsive institution, dedicated to mitigating disasters and enhancing resilience across the state and the wider North-East region.
