The celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, known as Easter Monday, was a moment joy in Plateau State as both Muslims and Christians in Jos North Local Government Area came together to celebrate.

Organized by the Christian Association of Nigeria in Jos North Local Government Area for Easter Monday, it was a fulfilling moment as both Christians and Muslims promised to tolerate one another and allow peace to reign in the state.

The Secretary Jos North Local Government Council, Shehu Bala, who stood in for the Muslim community, was among other Muslims and well wishers who graced the occasion.

Speaking at the event, the state Governor, Simon Bako Lalong, appealed to Muslim and Christian worshipers to centre their preachings on issues that can promote unity and peaceful coexistence rather than creating problems for the government.

Lalong, who was represented by the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Peter Azi, urged Christians to pray for sustainable peace in Jos North and Plateau State, stressing that the return of peace will mark the beginning of a new dawn.

According to Governor Lalong, peace remains cardinal in the development of any community, hence the need to learn to give peace a chance.

According to him: “Some part of the state is gradually celebrating the return of those internally displaced persons but we are appealing to our religious leaders to use the gospel to preach love and understanding among us.”

The Deputy Governor, Prof. Sonni Tyoden, used the occasion to urge the people of the state to continue to be patient with the government, promising that government has taken their plight as very paramount and was working towards making their lives better.

Represented by the Director of Press and Public Affairs in the state, Emmanuel Nanle, Tyoden tasked Christians to put behind them issues that would divide them.

He said the present administration was desirous to see that priority is given to peace building and prompt payment of workers’ salaries.

Speaking earlier, the CAN Treasurer in the state and ECWA Jos DCC Secretary, Rev. Bawa Garba Audu, emphasized the need for all Christians worldwide to maintain issues that will bind them as a body.

Reading from the book of Mark chapter 16, the clergy admonished Christian faithful to see themselves as Christ and the experience he encountered on the cross of calvary to bring good news to mankind.

Audi said: “We are happy today Christ died for our sins so this gathering is an indication that we shall rise again.”

The Secretary of Jos North LGA, Alhaji Shehu Bala, appealed to all human beings to see each other as members of one indivisible family.
