Chaos ensued at the Plateau State Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, when party supporters stormed the secretariat to protest the tenure extension of the present Langtang North caretaker chairmen of the local government, chief Dan Dul.
The protesters, mostly supporters of the party in Langtang North Local Government Area, on Wednesday stormed the party secretariat in Jos to register their displeasure over the extension of the tenure of local government chairmen, particularly that of Dan Dul, the current caretaker committee chairman of Langtang North LGA.
Information available to ViewPointNigeria suggests that the chairmen are billed to spend two extra months in office, based on arrangements by the current APC government. The tenure extension was said to have already been rubber stamped and approved by the state House of Assembly and as such as been passed as law.
ViewPointNigeria gathered that APC stalwarts from Langtang North were visibly unhappy about the development, complaining about what they termed the abysmal performances of Hon. Dan Dul since appointed.
Investigations by ViewPointNigeria’s correspondent however, throws lots of questions about the motives for such protest, given the fact that the caretaker chairmen chief Dul has only been in office for less than one year, as such any meaningful developments can be hard to quantify.
The protest, according to reports, was preceded by an earlier petition to the party at the state level by the group, accusing the chairman of laxity, non performance etc.
There was however a second group in support of Dul, who equally stormed the party secretariat to register their pleasure and approbation over his performance, asking the party to ignore the earlier petition.
The debacle between the two factions led to commotion and confusion in the secretariat, necessitating the intervention of the police.
Shalkur Haruna said the writers of the petition against Dul were traitors and that indigenes of Langtang North had lost confidence in the LGA executives who had written a petition against the chairman. Speaking, he said – “We learnt that these traitors held a close door meeting around 2 am and resolved to come to the state secretariat to register their displeasure, so we decided to rush and come to let the party know that Dul has done excellently well and that we want Dan Dul to remain as our chairman”.
It took the intervention of several party stalwarts to quell the disagreement and pacify the two warring factions. Speaking after the resolution, the part deputy chairman, Mr. Enoch Fanmark, said the party has resolved that the state executive will go into a close door meeting to listen to the complaints of the petitioners and subsequently, it shall listen to that of the opposing side in order to take an informed position.
