An outbreak of fire destroyed the female section of the Jos Central Mosque on Wednesday. A ViewPointNigeria Journalists who visited the scene of the incident, observed that large flames had engulfed most parts of the mosque.

The flame and smoke also engulfed houses and shops in the vicinity. Spokesman of the Plateau police command, described the fire as “serious and unfortunate”.

He said the cause came from a vehicle parked beside the mosque,which caught fire and spread to the place of worship. “For now, we can confirm that no one was killed in the inferno, but we have despatched our men to the scene to protect property,” he said. “Once an incident like this happens, there are miscreants always taking that as an advantage to steal. “We want to make sure that such did not happen.”
