Hon. Dan Kwada Charges Middle Belt Journalists to Promote the Unity and Progress of the Region

Journalists from the Middle Belt have been admonished to work towards reporting issues that would foster unity, progress and development of the region.

The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, Middle Belt Nationalities during the interface with the Middle Belt Journalists Forum on Thursday 26th September, 2024 at Greatlinks Continental Suites Jos, the Plateau State Capital.
Hon. Dan Kwada commended the Journalists for their notable sacrifice and contributions to the unity, growth and progress of the Zone but was quick to state that the challenges confronting the region are under-reported.
He therefore urged Journalists from the region to be more united and tactful in reporting the challenges in the region to attract both national and global attention. He emphasized the need to chart a new course for the region and for all hands to be on deck to protect its rich heritage.
He expressed dissatisfaction on the marginalisation and neglect the region has suffered and hinted that he felt it is important for Journalists from the region to come together, brainstorm to foster unity for better understanding and collaboration.
Earlier in his remarks, the Plateau State Coordinator of Middle Belt Journalists Forum, Ezekiel Dontinna disclosed that the engagement seeks to shape the region through robust idea generation and incubation that would make the region stronger and better. He urged Journalists from the region to be good Ambassadors and project it in good light.

In their separate remarks at the meetings, former Commissioner of Information Plateau State Hon. Gregory Nyelong, Nde Jonathan Ishaku, Nde Katdapba Gobum former NUJ Chairman Plateau State, the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor of Plateau State Hon. Gyang Bere, Dr. Timothy Golu the Special Adviser to the Governor of Plateau State on Strategic Communications, Ladi Emmanuel the National Auditor of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Paul Jatau former NUJ Plateau State Branch and Hon. James Mannok the former Chief Press Secretary to Governor Jonah Jang applauded the idea of reviving the forum and urged Journalists to always support the developmental interest of the region.


According to them, the challenges the region is facing ranging from insecurity which has displaced people in their thousands, marginalisation and economic calls for urgent intervention.
They charged Journalists to focus on reportage that would strengthen democratic processes; promote accountability, transparency, free and fair elections.
In addition, Journalists were urged to harmonize their ideas for the common good of the region since the development of the region is hugely dependent on how the region is portrayed through positive reportage.
They also harped on the need for Nation building, integration and the need to stop discrimination. Increase to access to quality education and the protection of the rights of marginalised and vulnerable groups were highlighted.
They also recommended that Women and youths should be integrated into development models to give them sense of belonging and better equip them for future leadership and to add value to the Society.

Those who attended the meeting spoke on the need to sustain the initiative for the common good of the region.

Highlight of the engagement was an interactive session where Journalists discussed better ways to promote the unity and progress of the region since the struggle is to promote the cultural interest of the people and not for any unhealthy sentiment.
