The Nigerian Army held a pivotal seminar on “Digital Transformation and Smart Soldier Concept” at the Headquarters of 3 Division, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Rukuba Barracks. Organized by the Army Headquarters’ Department of Army Transformation and Innovation, the seminar focused on leveraging technology to improve the Army’s operational effectiveness.
In remarks delivered on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TA Lagbaja, by the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Major General AE Abubakar, the seminar was hailed as timely, given the rapidly evolving nature of modern warfare. Major General Abubakar emphasized the Army’s commitment to equipping personnel with advanced technologies, including smart devices and wearable technology, to improve communication, situational awareness, and decision-making in combat scenarios.
“The convergence of digital technologies with military operations is not just an option but an imperative,” Major General Abubakar said, underscoring the need for the Nigerian Army to stay ahead of technological trends.
Adding to this, Major General Z Obaka, the Chief of Transformation and Innovation, Nigerian Army, remarked that the seminar was designed to sensitize personnel on the integration of digital technologies into Army operations. He noted that this initiative aligns with global military best practices and current operational realities.
“The theme of the seminar, ‘Enhancing Digital Transformation and Smart Soldier Concepts in the Nigerian Army for Combat Efficiency,’ aptly captures the evolving nature of today’s operational environment, which is volatile, complex, and ambiguous,” said Major General Obaka. He further explained that the seminar focuses on exposing officers and soldiers to advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and data analytics, which would improve coordination, decision-making, and overall combat efficiency.
This initiative, Major General Obaka explained, would particularly benefit junior and middle-ranking officers, who are the main targets of the seminar, by enabling them to make informed decisions and manage resources more effectively. He encouraged participants to remain open-minded and contribute meaningfully, as the interactive sessions would foster positive engagement and operational effectiveness.
The seminar also aligns with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, which emphasizes effective leadership, operational efficiency, and sound administration. Major General Obaka commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TA Lagbaja, for his continuous guidance and support in providing the necessary resources for the seminar.
In his concluding remarks, Major General Obaka also expressed appreciation to the Commander of Operation Safe Haven, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, and their staff for facilitating the successful hosting of the seminar. He warmly welcomed all participants and resource persons, expressing optimism that the seminar would yield fruitful outcomes.
The seminar is expected to enhance the Nigerian Army’s ability to tackle security challenges across Plateau State and Nigeria, with participants encouraged to adopt modern concepts and technological advancements to achieve operational efficiency.
Additionally, a seasoned senior officer of the Nigerian Army Signal Corps and tech expert with over 30 years of service to the nation, Major General EE Ayanuga, Commander of the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command, delivered the first lecture. His lecture, titled Leveraging Digital Transformation for Enhanced Operational Effectiveness in the Nigerian Army: Operation Safe Haven in Perspective, provided invaluable insights into how technology is shaping military operations.
