Major General Edward Buba has assured Nigerians that the Nigerian Military and other security agencies are working collectively and tirelessly to restores peace and secure the Nation and its Citizens.
He said this during the joint Press Conference by Security Defence and Response Agencies under the auspices of the Strategic Communications Interagency Advisory Policy Committee on 6th June, 2024 at the Defence Headquarters.
He said the Committee is coordinated by the Office of the National Security Adviser and serves as the umbrella body for the Spokespersons of all Nigerian Security and response agencies, facilitating unified and strategic communication to highlight the collective activities of the agencies over the past year.
He said the activities are as a result of their coordinated efforts to enhance national security and protect the lives and property of Nigerians.
He hinted that the Office of the National Security Adviser has been pivotal in coordinating national security strategies and ensuring synergy among various security agencies.
He further stated that in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Office of the National Security Adviser initiated series of economic security measures against currency manipulators and speculators.
He expressed optimism that the Armed Forces of Nigeria is in good and strong position in the war against Terrorists and their cohorts with many terrorist Leaders being killed. He further stated that the potency of the Terrorists was largely degraded with 9,303 terrorist neutralised, 6,988 Terrorists including their logistic suppliers and informants arrested, while 4,641 hostages were rescued from 23rd May to June 24th, 2024.
He also stated that the Maritime Security has intensified patrols and International collaborations of the Nigerian Navy led to substantial reduction in piracy incidents in Gulf of Guinea.
According to him, the Department of State Services and other intelligence agencies have played a critical role in safeguarding national security through intelligence gathering and covert operations.
He lauded the activities of the Nigerian Police Force and other law enforcement agencies for undertaking significant reforms and operations to enhance public safety.
He also commended the Custodial management for ensuring proper care, rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society.
He said the lead agencies in the fight against corrupt practices have done a lot which led to the recovery a d forfeiture of assets.
He also applauded the remarkable achievements and contributions of the Nigerian Custom Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) for working assiduously to achieve their respective mandate.
