The students of the University of Jos, led by SUG President Comrade Sambo Nanchwat, joined the university’s lecturers in a campus protest. The lecturers are protesting as part of preparations for a potential strike if their demands are not met by the federal government of Nigeria.

University teachers in Nigeria had previously given a two-week ultimatum to President Tinubu’s administration to fulfill their demands or they would initiate industrial action. It is important to remember that the NEC of ASUU issued a two-week ultimatum to the Nigerian Federal Government to sign the Nemi Briggs agreement, addressing concerns about university funding and staff welfare.

The SUG President, Comrade Nanchwat Sambo, emphasizes the students’ unified stance in urging the FG to avert classroom closures, highlighting that students will ultimately face the repercussions. The students unanimously call on Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to take swift action and prevent the teachers from going on strike.

Members of the University of Jos chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) conducted a peaceful protest on Tuesday regarding the non-implementation of an agreement reached with the federal government. The chapter’s chairperson, Prof. Jurbe Molwus, spearheaded the march to the office of the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tanko Ishaya. The union’s demands were presented to the vice chancellor by Molwus, through his deputy, Prof. Kiri Jaryum, in accordance with the directives from its National Executive Council (NEC).
