Dr. Shurkuk leads ministry on visit to attack victims in Mangu

The Commissioner of Health for Plateau State, Hon. Dr. Shurkuk Cletus Bako on Thursday 25th January, 2024 conducted a visit to the victims of the recent attacks in Mangu. The purpose of the visit was to represent His Excellency Governor Caleb Mutfwang and deliver medical consumables donated to the state by UNICEF and NEMA.

The visit by the delegation led by the commissioner and accompanied by the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Plateau State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Benjamin Sumi as well as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, and key directors in the Ministry aimed to express solidarity with the victims and address their immediate healthcare needs.

The Health Commissioner, on behalf of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, handed over medical consumables donated by UNICEF and NEMA to enhance the healthcare response for the victims of the attacks.

The delegation extended heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families, acknowledging the pain and suffering resulting from the tragedy. They assured the victims of government’s support, specifically emphasizing the commitment to cover hospital bills for the survivors. This measure aims to alleviate the financial burden on effected families during their recovery.

Recognizing the severity of some cases, Dr. Shurkuk ordered the immediate referral of individuals with critical conditions to specialized medical facilities using the available Ambulance. This decision reflects the government’s commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare for all victims.

The Health Commissioner Hon. Dr. Shurkuk Cletus Bako and the accompanying delegation engaged with victims, healthcare professionals, and local authorities during the visit. They toured medical facilities that admitted the victims which include Al-Ummah Clinic Sabon Kasuwa, General Hospital Mangu, Nanret Gi-Bethel Hospital, and Infinity Hospital Mangu. assessing the current health conditions of the Victims and the extent of medical needs of each victims.

During interactions with survivors, the Commissioner conveyed Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s sympathy and reiterated the government’s dedication to their well-being. The delegation listened to the concerns of victims and medical staff, demonstrating a collaborative approach to address challenges and improve the overall healthcare response.
