While wishing the Citizens of Plateau State a prosperous 2024, the Plateau Initiative for Development and Advancement of the Natives (PIDAN) has consoled the families of those who lost their beloved ones in the unfortunate attacks of Bokkos on Christmas Eve and prayed that God almighty shall grant the souls of the departed eternal rest.
In a statement jointly signed by the President Prof. Aboi Madaki and Secretary Cmr. Nanle Gujor PIDAN is of the hope that both the Federal and State Governments shall take adequate measures to see that the injured are catered for and the displaced persons are supported and returned to their ancestral land without delay.
It said both the Christmas Eve killings and the prolonged political leadership impasse in the State have not only been sources of great concern but have also slowed down progress and demoralised most persons who had wished to see that the State take giant strides in growing the economy, building robust infrastructure, and providing effective leadership and governance.
It disclosed that there is great need to create an environment that gives hope to the citizens.
“It is in this light that PIDAN wishes to express a huge appreciation to God almighty for ensuring that the Governorship tussle is brought to a close peacefully. We wish to seize this opportunity to congratulate His Excellency Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for his victory as the winner of the 2023 Governorship election in Plateau State. We pray that God almighty will continue to grant him wisdom, strength and resources to deliver on his campaign promises to the good people of the State.
“The political leadership impasse on the Plateau following the 2023 elections and the behaviour of a good number of political actors did divide the citizens, caused great emotional pains and disenchantment inimical to unity, peace and meaningful development. There is need to put in place measures to unite the people for the onerous task of rebuilding the devastated communities, improving infrastructure, strengthening unity and providing good governance.
“This is the single most important task that the Governor should accord top priority in words and deeds. We pray that God almighty grants him the wisdom to excel in such a task.
“PIDAN appreciates all candidates in the 2023 general elections and their party leadership, noting that their conduct and effective control of their respective supporters in line with our plea, gave room for the smooth outcome of the elections and the exhibition of the true Plateau spirit of tolerance.
“PIDAN also wishes to appreciate the good gesture of some key actors of the opposition party who did not only accept the verdict but also congratulated Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang on his victory at the Supreme Court.
“Now that the main elections are over, PIDAN wishes to appeal to all political actors in the State to avoid unguarded utterances, embrace and forgive each other and strive to work with the Governor who has already started well by initiating a series of projects and programs capable of improving the economy, infrastructure and uplifting the standard of living of the citizens.
“Furthermore, PIDAN wishes to encourage the citizens to have hope in our present situation and pray for the success of our leaders at all levels in the State.
“Finally, PIDAN wishes to appeal to all citizens to take security concerns very seriously in all programs and engagements and be effective information providers to the security agents in order to enable them provide us with the safety and the protection that we need” the statement concluded.
