2023 International Youth Day: Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Mwadkwon Lauds Nigeria’s Youth Contributions to Nation Building

As the 2023 International Youth Day is observed, the Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Plateau North has appreciated the immense contributions of the youths to Nation building describing them as “the Pillars” holding the Nation.

Sen. Mwadkwon said the youths possess multi-dimensional talents, gifts, capacities and capabilities that need to be harnessed for the socioeconomic well-being of the Nation.

In a statement signed by his Director of Media and Publicity, Friday Bako to commemorate the Celebration, he said greater attention must be accorded to the youths disclosing that they must be empowered and their capacities built to achieve their full potentials at appreciable levels.
“August 12th is designated by the United Nations to celebrate the contributions and potential of young people around the world; to also provide an opportunity to raise awareness about the challenges and issues faced by young people, as well as to promote their active participation in social, economic and political processes while providing a platform for governments, organisations, communities and individuals to come together to discuss and address the needs, concerns and aspirations of young people. As a Lawmaker, I am very much aware of the challenges confronting the youths and I remain committed to enacting laws and supporting policies and programmes that are tailored towards empowering the youths and building their capacities” he said.

According to him, the theme of the 2023 Celebration “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World” is apt and urged the youths to key into same. He hinted that the shift towards an environmentally sustainable and climate-friendly world is critical not only for responding to the global climate crisis but also for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He said the transition to green world can only be achieved when the youths develop their green skills which include but not limited to knowledge, abilities, values and attitudes needed to live in, develop and support a sustainable and resource-efficient society.
He admonished the youths to remain positive and contribute their quota to Nation building despite the numerous challenges they are facing ranging from insecurity, poverty, unemployment and others.

He urged Government at all levels to come up with programmes and policies that will have direct impact on the youth population.

He wished them a hitch-free celebration.
