BIO- Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi is of the Jahr ethnic stock, born into the Family of Mallam Adamu Yusuf and Mallama Hauwa Adamu of Gagdi village of Jahr Chiefdom in Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State on the 5th November 1980

There always comes a time, an era, or a moment in the socialization of a community or a people when almighty God raises men and women of vision, with strong convictions, possessing capacity and tremendous leadership capacity and qualities, for the purpose of giving the people a new direction and taking them to a greater echelon in social and economic endeavours.

Rt. Hon Yusuf Adamu Gagdi (Babayo) is one of those rare people with essential qualities complete with credibility, competence and compassion and humanitarianism at heart.     

In 2019, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi was elected to represent the people of the Pankshin/ Kanke/ Kanam (PKK) Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. His passion to bring change to both his constituents and Constituency was glaring as he immediately delved into the primary task of legislation, representation and over-sighting with uncommon vigour and zeal. As a frontline and experienced parliamentarian, Gagdi understood the place of the Legislature in Nigeria’s democracy as enshrined in section 4 of the Nigerian Constitution wherein legislative powers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria vested in the National Assembly, the power to make laws for the Peace, Order and good Government of the Federation Or any part thereof with respect to any matter included in the Exclusive Legislative list.

In addition to the aforementioned, the task of effective representation hinges on the twin pillar of responsive and responsible activism which presupposes the voicing of wishes and aspirations of the represented and the execution of projects and programs that have direct bearings on the lives of the constituents; thereby, completing the circle of people-centred representation with a well-lubricated feedback mechanism in the flow of information known here as the legislative plus.

The success story will leave discernable readers marvelling at the unprecedented achievements recorded within his short period of time in the National Assembly. This is even more so when juxtaposed against the backdrop that Gagdi is a first-time lawmaker in the National Assembly.

The primary function of the legislature (National Assembly), as enshrined in Chapter four of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), is to make laws for the security and good governance of Nigeria. Section 14 of the 1999 constitution provides among other things: that ‘’the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of the government’’. This is predicated upon the participation of the people through their elected representatives in government.

However, the true test of a modern Nigerian lawmaker is not limited to the number of Bills and Motions that the legislator sponsors in the discharge of his core legislative mandate, but extended to include his lobbying prowess, which should be manifest in the number of projects and programs he has attracted to his constituency.

The contemporary and rationale trends of legislative responsibilities stretch to also include the number of people such a legislator has empowered; whether through the provision of skill acquisition that earns them a means of livelihood, or the provision of financial grants to small-scale entrepreneurs to boost their economic activities, or by securing employment opportunities in government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for the constituents.

Undoubtedly, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, through dedication and dint of hard work, has engraved his name in gold in the minds of thousands of his constituents and earned for himself the status of an all-round modern legislator with a perfect blend of the qualities outlined above by no mean measures. He has re-defined leadership as a representative of the people and a first-timer in the House of Representatives.

Rt. Hon. Gagdi has realized that the opportunity to serve his constituents is beyond the rhetoric of office but involves the convergence of ideas that are built around the needs of the people. Between 11th June 2019 to date, adequate attention of the Hon. Member has been drawn to the myriad of issues confronting the Nigerian State and in particular, his constituency of Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam through Consultations. To set the record straight, he has met with various pressure groups and political associations including Youth Groups, Women Groups, Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders and Political Groups across different divides within and outside his Constituency. This Consultation resulted amongst other things in the setting up of the Gobak Blueprint Committee in 2019.

Through the effort of the above committee the legislator, draws and implement a blueprint that has empowered many indigent constituents and communities  Gagdi have sunk boreholes in all the polling units of PKK again, many had Jamb Waec and NECO exam fee refund and many now owe a livelihood through the empowerment program of the Rt. Hon. Adamu Gagdi.

Part of his achievement that will never be forgotten is the upgrade of FCE Pankshin to the University of Education Pankshin, the Police act, among too many to list. as remember Gagdi the legislator, we see strides and celebrate PKK so:
