In a daring attmept to return to the roads after being prohibited by the outgone administration of Jonah Jang, commercial motorcycle riders, otherwise known as ‘Okada’ have regrouped and are set to have a showdown with security agencies and policemen who might want to continue enforcing the previous ban on commercial motorbike operation.

It would be recalled that Jonah Jang banned the operation of commercial motorcyclists within the state capital as part of the measures to arrest the insecurity and unholy acts within Jos city and its environs.

Now, with the exit of his administration on May 29th, commercial motorcycles have resurfaced within the state capital  and other parts of the city on the premise that the administration that enacted the law banning the operation was no longer in power.

Investigations reveal that  the State Police Command in the past few weeks has been having a hectic time to enforce the ban and to educate the riders that the ban did not fizzle out with the exit of the last administration.

Source close to the police and VIO revealed that within one week, no fewer than 200 motorcycles were confiscated from ‘Okada’ riders in Jos alone, while those who had relocated to neighboring states of Bauchi and Nasarawa states, have started returning to Jos.

Addressing news men in Jos, the State Commissioner of Police Mr. Nasiru Oki said commercial motorcyclists  made attempts last week to burn down two police stations within the state capital to protest the confiscation of their motorcycles the police on patrol.

He added that they have also regroup to fight the police or any security agents who may want to arrest them, adding that a lot of them are presently armed with dagger knives , cutlasses  and other dangerous weapons to attack the police, especially the traffic warder who may want to arrest them.

“This week alone quite a lot of them were arrested and their motorcycles confiscated. We discovered that many of them are armed with weapon trapped  on the body to hack any police man they come across or that may want want to arrest them.”
