The Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (PLSUBEB) and Plateau State Ministry of Education has partnered United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) to coordinate the Local Government Area rollout of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) COVID-19 Response as well as safe School return Campaign.
The campaign held in all the Seventeen (17) Local Government Education Authorities across the State and was well attended on Friday 14th January, 2022.
In Jos South Local Government Area, the event held at the Local Government Education Authority Office Bukuru and was well attended by Stakeholders in the Education Sector, Clergies, Traditional Rulers, Supervisory Councillors, Local Government Officials from the Area, Officials from the State Universal Basic Education Board, Staff and Students from selected School.
In his remarks while flagging the campaign, Hon. Alex Dalyop who represented the Council’s Chairman lauded partners who are carrying out the campaign.
He hinted that the COVID-19 pandemic has affected livelihood, with education and the economy not excluded as it has affected both the school calendar and learning Nationally especially from 2020 to 2021 with the spillover still evident with over 10 million out of school children in Nigeria on account of the pandemic. He posited that the “back to school” campaign is timely and commendable.
“Education for Children is not something anybody should take for granted because if you educate a child the you have created wealth for a generation as we are all products of education”
“The effects of Covid-19 on our educational system will definitely take time to recover, however we must begin to do our best to recover. With education that has brought in science and technology that has helped in the management of Covid-19 with the development and administration of vaccines worldwide and even here in Nigeria” he disclosed.
The Chairman further stressed that the measures deployed by the World Health Organization (WHO) students are now back to school charging the people to support the Education of the younger generation as in so doing they are securing the future generation.
He decried the spate of insecurity bedevilling the Nation saying lack of proper education has led to kidnapping, Banditry and other social vices but disclosed that education has the propensity to rid the society of such vices.
He further called on all to do the right thing by encouraging the back to school campaign and went on to flag-off the campaign in Jos South Local Government Area.
The Education Secretary of the Area reiterated the commitment of the Authority to ensuring pupils/students get sound and quality education as well as remain safe against COVID-19.
There were various presentations from students on Covid-19 awareness and back to school campaign at the flag-off ceremony.
