The attacks, killings and destruction of farm crops in some parts of Bassa Local Government has caused serious setback to the efforts put in place by the Plateau Peace Building Agency (PPBA).

In a statement signed by the Director General of the Agency, Mr. Joseph Lengmang and made available to this medium, the agency expressed displeasure the sudden upsurge in violence in some parts of Bassa LGA in the last few days which led to the senseless killing of some persons and left many houses completely razed down.

While commiserating with the families of the deceased and those who lost property, the agency condemn the act which it termed evil and wickedness.

Mr. Lengmang said they are pained considering the recent concerted efforts deployed by the agency in the last few Months to engage critical stakeholders from Bassa, Riyom and Barkin Ladi LGAs.
He said most recent is the two-day capacity building training for all community and religious leaders from the LGA which held on the 7th to 8th July.
“At some point, the PPBA also extracted some kind of commitment from the leaders of the various communities to live in peace with one another but, sadly, this has almost always ended in relapse at the slightest provocation”

“As a people, we must understand and appreciate the fact that this persistent violence is an ill-wind that blows no one any good. It is disheartening that a few questionable elements amongst us will be allowed to subject us, the majority, in ceaseless bloodletting. That is unacceptable and we condemn this renewed violence in strong terms” he disclosed.

Mr. Lengmang further declared that the people must rise up and act decisively against the criminal element who are hellbent on disrupting the peace in the State and causing havoc to the people.
He encouraged the people not to despair but to resolve as a people with common destiny to cooperate with one another in defeating the common enemy of their collective humanity.

He called for calm and urged the security agency in the State to swing into action and ensure the perpetuators are arrested regardless of their identity with a view to prosecuting them in order to serve as deterrent to others who may be contemplating carrying such evil acts.

He urged the people to refrain from hate and inflammatory statements that may aggravate the already bad situation at hand.
