Rwang Patrick Pens Tribute to Late NIPSS DG, Prof. Habu Galadima Describing Him as a Scholar Whose Scholarship Mark is Unmatched, Unequal and Unparalleled

PROFESSOR HABU GALADIMA WAS A SCHOLAR WHOSE SCHOLARSHIP MARK IS UNMATCHED AND UNEQUAL AND UNPARALLELED. GOOD NIGHT MY PROF OF THE ACADEMIC SEVENTH RANK.

In this memoir and tribute in loving memory of my lecturer, HOD and Professor.

I will be focusing on my dealings with him as his student and classrep of class 2010 Political Science University of Jos.

I got to know Prof in 2003, when my late brother Associate Professor Pam Gyang (Pampada) took me to his office to solicit for possible assistance, though we came late as admission was concluded. Him and his bosom friend were very hospitable to my brother and I.

I recall in 2005, Prof was there to screen us with his team of staffers during the post JAMB screening(the first series of Post JAMB in UJ).

His usual friendly smiles and humility endeared him to almost all the prospective students present. He addressed us with all sense of scholarship and soundness of thought.

He took over as our HOD in 2006. The pressure of the office never made him to miss his classes. He was a student’s lecturer. If Prof will not make it to class, he informed me ahead of time and direct me to communicate my course mates. He don’t want us to be stranded.

While waiting for him to be set for class. He will allow me seat in his office as I watch him print materials for the lecture. His course outline and lecture synopsis are always with him.

When he is in the class, he will keep the class busy with his consolidated knowledge of international relations, international security and military strategies. He is a Professor that professes knowledge to the apogee. He has epistemological and ontological knowledge of his discipline.

As HOD, he had maximum respect to his colleagues. When he want to inquire about lecturers attendance to class from me as a classrep. He does that with utmost sense of maturity. From him I have learnt the most.

When our names were omitted during NYSC mobilization. I called him to draw his attention to that development. Prof just drove down to students affairs to find out what went wrong by himself.

After the administrative clarifications given to him by the school authorities, he addressed us and asked us to be patient with the school management, since the error wasn’t from the denary or department, it was a minor oversight.

Though we missed the batch A mobilization in 2011, but we got mobilized for batch B respectively as he already assured us.

I met Prof at the department after my NYSC. He jokingly asked me, what grade did you graduate with? I said 2.1, he laughed and told me humorously, if there is anything like 1.1 you would have gotten it.

In 2018, I met Prof at ASUU Secretariat Unijos. During a lecture they organized in honor of Professor Elaigwu at the occasion of his 70th birthday.

He congratulated me on my appointment and told me that, he is always proud of me. He was my teacher and Friend.

During that lecture, Prof raised some fundamental issues like: we must learn to separate between the roles of the elected and the appointed in Nigeria.
The elected have their constitutional duties and the appointed must be guided too by the law.

Prof posit that, it is know pertinent for the six geopolitical zones to be reflected in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. By law and utmost sense of knowledge, one can do anything to disregard the six geopolitical zones since it is not in the Constitution.

Those thoughts has remain part of me. As will work them in future academic writings and proposal for National Development. He was a professor that generate knowledge and teaches insights. He was very witty, full of grit and gritty, Wis, wiseful, wise and very intelligent. He was a researcher per excellent.

Federalism is one of the core areas Prof majors in. He is a Federal scholar to the core. A quintessential thinker of National and international repute.

As HOD, he attends students events and advice them from his heart as a father that he was to us.

I will truly miss him because of his academic endowment that is found in me as his student and i was close to him in knowledge and wisdom as his intellectual mentee. I drank from his Rivers, Ocean and Sea of wisdom.

Surely, I will keep referencing his thoughts and scholarly works in my articles as I grow in the academia.

I will never forget his analysis of Nigerian Foreign Policy, Security Studies, Military Strategies and Peace Keeping.

He was a fine scholar. A well dressed lecturer. A man with a golden smiles. A cloud of knowledge. A sage of good nature.

As I send my condolences to his immediate family, the department of Political Science University of Jos, University of Jos Community, and NIPSS, I am sending my sympathy to his bosom friend Prof Audu Nanven Gambo. I have never seen such fraternal friendship elsewhere except from them. They were good friends indeed.
To my course mates, let’s be strong. Let’s all remain good ambassadors of Political Science as Prof thought us.
I still here him calling, distinguished classrep.

Sleep on my Prof. I pray to God almighty to allow me reach the peak of my career and deliver an inaugural lecture, you will be fully acknowledged my Prof.
