Widows, Orphans and Widowers in Barkin Ladi & Riyom LGAs got farming input (fertilizers) from Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Centre Jos.
The intervention was to assist them in their farming activities to improve food production.
The CEO of Beautiful Gate Handicapped Centre, Chief Ayuba Burki Gufwan said the essence of the gesture was to assist those who lost their breadwinners in the crisis that engulfed their communities.
He said though the target of the Centre is to address the needs of the people with disabilities, it deemed it fit to assist the target group who are economically weak and lost their means of livelihood in most cases.
He admonished them to focus on God, remain prayerful and not allow their predicament weigh them down. He prayed for better yield and urged them to be diligent in what their legitimate activities.
Chief Ayuba Burki said the centre will continue to assess the situation of the vulnerable and look for possible ways of intervention.
He urged the people to stay safe and continue to observe all health measures aimed at preventing the dreaded COVID-19 Pandemic.
In all the places visited, the Dagwom Rwey of Riyom HRH Da Samuel Jok and his Barkin Ladi counterpart, HRH Da Gyang Edward Mashat lauded the centre for the humanitarian gesture which they said will go a long way to increase food production and address certain challenges being faced by the target group. They admonished the people not to sell the farm input but use them for the right purpose.
They called on other NGOs, Government at all levels and well spirited individuals to emulate the centre and come to the aid of the people who are facing numerous challenges.
The Management Committee Chairman Riyom LGC, Hon. Mafeng Gwallson commended the centre for the efforts of centre in alleviating the hardship being faced by the people.
He said the Council will continue to give priority to agricultural development and focus on the welfare of the people.
He assisted the beneficiaries financially for transportation.
In their remarks, the beneficiaries who were filled with joy appreciated the centre for identifying with them in their trying moment. They expressed satisfaction that there are people who think of them and have empathy towards addressing their plights.
They promised to put the fertilizers to effective use and pray God to open greater doors for the centre to reach more people.
The distribution took place at Riyom Community Hall, Riyom LGA & Youth Club Barkin Ladi LGA.
218 persons in Riyom LGA & 231 in B/Ladi LGA benefited from the humanitarian gesture of the centre and went home with a bag of fertilizer each.
The event held in strict compliance with COVID-19 Health protocol.
Beautiful Gate Centre has extended same gesture to vulnerable in Bassa, Mangu and Bokkos as well as the present target Local Government Areas in July, 2020.
