Plateau State Government has ordered the suspension of all Eid grounds in the State for now in order to curtail the spread of the dreaded Covid 19 Virus .

Secretary to the Government of the State Prof Danladi Atu, who addressed newsmen in Jos said that Mosques where Eid Prayer will be observed should not have more than fifty worshippers as the world set to celebrate Sallah .

He said the use of facemasks in public places remains compulsory and called on the people to adhere to social distancing and always wash their hands with soap and use hand sanitizers frequently .

He called on citizens of the state to team up with government in the fight against the pandemic that is threatening to engulf mankind.

Dr Nimkong Lar, the State’s Commissioner of Health, who also spoke at the occasion said that three of its health workers have tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID- 19).

He said the health workers were among the new cases confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Lar called on the people not to panic, he explained that the new cases had increased the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the State to 57.

He said Jos North Local government has the highest number of infected persons

The commissioner said that number of patients discharged are now 18 persons .

Also speaking, the Commissioner of Information, Mr Dan Manjang, described as unfortunate the situation where some people violate laid down regulations aimed at tackling the virus.

To ensure better enforcement and compliance, the Governor recently enrolled some of its civil servants for the exercise. Accordingly, the Head of Service has been directed to immediately deploy civil servants from grade levels 10-14 to various points across the State.”
“Local Government Chairmen are to also replicate same in their domains to ensure effective coverage of the entire State. “

He appealed to the people of the state to continue to strictly adhere to regulations put in place to contain the disease and curtail community spread.
